Digital Media Device Policy

The use of cell phones and other electronic devices (mp3’s, ipod’s, cameras, etc.) may be disruptive to the learning environment and may infringe upon the rights and privacy of others. In order to maximize the learning environment at Uintah Elementary, the following procedures apply: Students are discouraged from bringing any electronic device to school due to the risk of loss or damage. Uintah Elementary is not responsible for theft of or damage to these devices.

  1. If parents determine that a student must bring a cell phone for safety reasons,it must be turned off and stored in a backpack, bookbag, or in an area designated by the teacher, with the understanding that the teacher is NOT responsible for any loss or damage to the phone. Cell phones may not be seen, heard, or used during school hours inside or outside of the building.
  2. An office phone is available for student use if necessary.
  3. Violation of this policy will result in confiscation of the Digital Media Device.
    • The device will be kept in the office and may be retrieved by a parent or guardian of the student.
    • After a second offense, the student will not be allowed to have a cell phone at school for the remainder of the school year.
    • Continued offenses will result in disciplinary action that may include suspension from school.
